What Tokens Are and How Far They Go

Tokens are what AnyTale's AI runs on. Each time the AI makes something for you — an illustration, a cut-out, a translation — it uses a few. Everything else in the Editor is yours to use as much as you like.

What costs tokens

ActionTokensGood to know
Generate an image, Basic model3Fast, with bright, lively colour. Available on every plan.
Generate an image, Pro model5Sharper detail and richer composition. Creator and Master Pro.
Remove background1Cuts a character or object out so you can place it on any scene.
Translate 1,000 words1A whole short picture book often fits into one token.

Creating a new character, or putting one in a new pose with Magic Characters, is an image generation too. The model selector at the top of the panel shows the price before you press the button.

Writing and styling text, moving things around, changing backgrounds, adjusting light and colour, reordering pages — none of that touches your balance.

How far tokens go

A typical 12-page book uses about 130 tokens with the Basic model, or about 200 with the Pro model. Pages with more characters use more.

Where your tokens come from

  • Welcome bonus — 30 tokens when you sign up, enough for a page or two. They are valid for a month.
  • Your plan — a fresh allowance every month. On yearly billing, tokens still arrive once a month.
  • Top-ups — extra tokens you can buy at any time, starting at €4.99.

What happens to tokens you don't use

Each kind of token has its own rules:

  • Plan tokens refresh every month. Whatever is left at the end of the month expires and does not carry over.
  • Top-up tokens stay on your balance until you spend them.
  • Welcome bonus tokens are valid for a month after you sign up.

Plan tokens are always spent first, and top-up tokens only after them. So a top-up never sits unused while plan tokens run out the clock: the tokens with a deadline always go first.

That makes a top-up a safe way to stock up before a big month — whatever you don't use carries over to the next one.

Checking your balance

Click your avatar in the top-right corner and open Balance under Payments. To see what your tokens went on, open Billing history → Token usage. Inside the Editor, the price of each action is shown before you spend anything — for example, next to each model in Magic AI and Magic Characters.

Running out mid-book

Nothing is lost if you run out. Your book is saved automatically, and you can carry on as soon as you top up or move to a bigger plan.

Spending tokens wisely

  • Sketch with Basic, finish with Pro. The Basic model is quick and costs 3 tokens, which makes it good for trying ideas. Switch to the Pro model for final pages, where the extra detail shows.
  • Adjust before you regenerate. If an illustration is nearly right, the light and colour sliders cost nothing. Regenerating costs tokens and gives you a different picture.
  • Reuse what you already have. Pictures in Uploaded, Recently used and Recently generated can be placed again for free.
  • Mind the number of results. Generating several variants at once multiplies the cost.

Tip: Before a long session, glance at the price next to the model. Three or five tokens per image adds up over twenty pages, and it is easier to know the number beforehand than to discover it from your balance afterwards.
